Královské město Plzeň bylo založeno v roce 1295 na soutoku čtyř řek: Radbuzy, Mže, Úhlavy a Úslavy. Král Václav II. chtěl tímto krokem vybudovat druhé centrum země, které by upevnilo jeho vládu na západ od Prahy. Město užívalo různých výsad, které mu udělovali králové, císařové i sám papež. Díky tomu bylo vždy bohaté, hrdé a značně nezávislé, rozvíjela se zde řemesla i obchod, kvetl kulturní a společenský život. Na tyto tradice později navázaly věhlasné továrny, jako je Škoda či Plzeňský Prazdroj. V roce 2015 Plzeň bude Evropským hlavním městem kultury. Established in 1295 at the confluence of the rivers Radbuza, Úhlava, Úslava and Mže by the king Wenceslas II, the royal city of Pilsen was to serve as the second centre of the country and to strengthen the power of the king westward of Prague. The city has enjoyed many privileges bestowed upon it by kings, emperors and even the pope. Thanks to this, it has always been rich, proud and rather independent, with both crafts and trade developing successfully and culture flourishing. Later, renowned factories such as Škoda and Pilsner Urquell built on these traditions. Pilsen will become the European Capital of Culture in 2015. Die Königsstadt Pilsen wurde 1295 am Zusammenfluss von vier Flüssen – Radbusa, Mies, Úhlava und Úslava – gegründet. Mit diesem Schritt wollte der böhmische König Václav II. ein zweites Zentrum im Land errichten, das seine Herrschaft westlich von Prag festigen sollte. Die Stadt hatte verschiedene Privilegien inne, die ihr von Königen, Kaisern und sogar vom Papst verliehen wurden. Dank dieser Privilegien war Pilsen stets eine reiche, stolze und ausgesprochen unabhängige Stadt. Es entwickelten sich Handwerk und Handel, das gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Leben blühte. An diese Traditionen knüpften später berühmte Unternehmen wie Škoda und Pilsner Urquell an. Im Jahr 2015 ist Pilsen Kulturhauptstadt Europas.

Evropské hlavní město kultury 20154 Cz/ Plzeň – metropole západu Čech Dnešní Plzeň je velmi příjemným místem pro život, kde se snoubí komfort velko- města s relativním klidem města men- šího. Rozkládá se na ploše 137,67 km2 a žije zde zhruba 168 000 obyvatel. Je centrem kraje i diecéze. Sídlí zde Zá- padočeská univerzita, Lékařská fakulta Univerzity Karlovy a řada středních škol. město pokroku i tradice Poloha na křižovatce obchodních cest a věrnost královské koruně i papežské- mu stolci zaručovala Plzni výsadní posta- vení. O tom, že zde odjakživa byli lidé či- norodí, vzdělaní a pokrokoví, zase svědčí fakt, že právě tady byla ve druhé polo- vině 15. století vytištěna jedna z prvních česky psaných knih, Kronika Trojánská. Opravdový věhlas však Plzni přinesl až rozvoj průmyslu v 19. století. Zde zača- la psát svou historii vyhlášená vídeňská porcelánka Goldscheider. Tady uváděl „český Edison“ František Křižík do života svou obloukovou lampu či elektrickou tramvaj. Poháry na korunovaci ruské- ho cara Mikuláše II. vyráběla plzeňská slévárna Bartelmus. Největší proslulosti však dosáhly jiné dva plzeňské podniky: Škodovy závody a Měšťanský pivovar, dnešní Plzeňský Prazdroj. V průběhu posledních dvaceti let zde nalezly mís- to mnohé špičkové firmy celosvětového významu, jako je Panasonic, Sony, Mer- cedes a další. kultura a sport – pro každého něco Město žije také bohatým kulturním, spo- lečenským i sportovním životem. Hrají zde divadla profesionální i amatérská, na filmy lákají dvě multikina a Kino Beseda. Rozmanité kulturní akce se odehrávají v Měšťanské besedě, Domě hudby a v desítkách menších kulturních domů, sálů a klubů. Kromě toho je Plzeň každoročně dějištěm řady vyhlášených festivalů. K návštěvě láká i množství ga- lerií a muzeí. Plzeň je ale v posledních letech také nepřehlédnutelným centrem sportu. Na sportovním nebi září fotbalový klub FC Viktoria i prvoligový hokejový tým HC Škoda Plzeň. Fanoušci sportovní střelby zas dobře znají jména odchovan- ců plzeňského klubu, jako je třeba Kate- řina Emmons. www.plzen.eu Když na sklonku 13. století hledal král Václav II. vhodné místo pro vybudování silného města, nalezl je v bažinaté říční deltě nedaleko hradu Plzeň. Ten se rozprostíral na vrchu nad dnešním Starým Plzencem a dnes ho připomínají už jen základy dvou kostelů a románská rotunda sv. Petra a Pavla z 10. století.

European Capital of Culture 2015 5 En/ Pilsen – The Capital of Western Bohemia dE/ Pilsen – die Metropole Westböhmens When the king Wenceslas II looked, at the end of the 13th century, for a good place to build a strong city, he found it in the swamp delta near the castle of Pilsen. The castle was situated on the hill above Starý Plzenec; its only remnants today are the foundations of two churches and the 10th century Romanesque rotunda dedicated to St Peter and Paul. Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts suchte der böhmische König Václav II. einen geeigneten Ort zur Errichtung einer großen Stadt und fand diesen in einem sumpfigen Flussdelta unweit der Burg Pilsen. Letztere stand auf einem Berggipfel oberhalb des heutigen Städtchens Starý Plzenec (Altpilsen) und heute erinnern an sie nur noch die Fundamente zweier Kirchen und die romanische St.-Peter-und-Pauls-Rotunde aus dem 10. Jahrhundert. Today´s Pilsen is a very pleasant place to live, offering comfort of the big city and, at the same time, a calm atmosphere of a smaller town. It covers the area of 133.67 square kilometres and has about 168,000 inhabitants. It is the centre of both the region and the bishopric. The city is home to the University of West Bohemia, the Medical Faculty of Charles University and a number of secondary schools. the city of progress and tradition The location on the trading crossroads and the loyalty to the king and the pope ensured a privileged position to Pilsen. The fact that the city has always had an active, educated and progressive population is proved by the fact that it was here where one of the first printed Czech books, the Trojan Chronicle, was published in the mid-15th century. The true fame, however, did not arrive until the 19th century when the industry boomed. It was here that the famous Viennese porcelain factory Goldscheider was established. It was here that the “Czech Edison”, František Křižík, intro- duced his arc lamp or electric tram. The cups for the coronation of the Russian tsar Nicholas II were made in the Pilsen Bartelmus foundry. Two other companies, however, achieved the biggest fame, Škoda and the Municipal Brewery, today’s Pilsner Urquell. In the past twenty years, many top global companies have established their subsidiaries in the city, Panasonic, Sony and Mercedes among others. Culture and sport – something for everybody The city has a rich cultural, societal and sporting life. There are many theatre groups, both professional and amateur, two multiplexes and the Beseda cinema. Many culture events take place in Měšťanská beseda, the Music House and dozens of smaller culture establishments, halls and clubs. Besides that, Pilsen hosts popular music festivals every year and has many art galleries and museums. Recently, Pilsen has become a major sports centre. Both the football and hockey clubs, FC Viktoria and HC Škoda Plzeň, can boast great achievements. The fans of sport shooting will know the successful athletes of the local shooting club, such as Kateřina Emmons. www.pilsen.eu Das heutige Pilsen ist ein ausgesprochen angenehmer Ort zum Leben, verbindet es doch den Komfort einer Großstadt mit der relativen Ruhe einer kleineren Stadt. Pilsen nimmt eine Fläche von 137,67 km2 ein und hat ca. 168 000 Einwohner. Die Stadt ist Zentrum der Region wie auch des Bistums Pilsen. Hier haben die Westböhmische Universität, eine Medizinische Fakultät der Prager Karlsuniversität wie auch eine Reihe von Fachoberschulen und Gymnasien ihren Sitz. Eine Stadt der tradition und des fortschritts DieLageamSchnittpunktvonHandelswegen wie auch die Treue gegenüber der königlichen Krone und dem päpstlichen Thron garantierten Pilsen eine privilegierte Stellung. Von der Tatkraft, Bildung und Fortschrittlichkeit der Pilsener zeugt wiederum, dass gerade hier in der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts eines der ersten auf Tschechisch verfassten Bücher, die Kronika Trojánská, gedruckt wurde. Wirklicher Ruhm wurde Pilsen jedoch erst im Zuge der industriellen Entwicklung im 19. Jahrhundert zuteil. In dieser Stadt begann die namhafte Wiener Porzellanfabrik Goldscheider ihre Geschichte zu schreiben. Hier führte der „tschechische Edison“ František Křižík seine Bogenlampe und die elektrische Straßenbahn ein. Und auch die Pokale für die Krönungszeremonie des russischen Zaren Nikolai II. wurden in Pilsen, in der Gießerei Bartelmus, hergestellt. Die größte Berühmtheit erlangten jedoch zwei andere Pilsener Unternehmen: die Škoda-Werke und das Bürgerliche Brauhaus, heute als Pilsner Urquell (Plzeňský Prazdroj) bekannt. Während der letzten zwanzig Jahre siedelten sich hier viele weltweite Spitzenfirmen an, so z.B. Panasonic, Sony, Mercedes u.a. kultur und Sport – für jeden etwas Pilsen bietet ein breitgefächertes kulturelles und gesellschaftliches Leben wie auch zahlreiche Möglichkeiten zu sportlicher Betätigung. Hier laden mehrere Profi- und Amateurtheater, zwei Multikinos und das Kino Beseda zu einem Besuch ein. Im Kulturzentrum Měšťanská beseda, im Dům hudby (Haus der Musik) wie auch in vielen kleineren Kulturhäusern, Sälen und Clubs werden vielfältige Veranstaltungen geboten. Evropské hlavní město kultury 20156 Cz/ Plzeň – Evropské hlavní město kultury 2015 Plzeň byla po dlouhá desetiletí vní- mána především jako významné prů- myslové město. Plzeň je ale i město s bohatou kulturní tradicí. Funguje zde divadlo s činoherním, muzikálovým, baletním a operním souborem, divadlo zaměřené na děti a mládež, filharmo- nie a desítky menších tradičních i ex- perimentálních divadelních, hudebních a tanečních souborů. Tvoří tu řada vý- tvarníků. Umělecké vzdělání nabízejí školy od základních po vysoké. Plzeň je městem s nevídanou koncentrací umělců a kreativních lidí. Titul Evropského hlavního města kul- tury je skvělá příležitost, kterou chce Plzeň beze zbytku využít. Projekt pro- vází rozsáhlý program, jenž nabídne řadu výstav, koncertů nebo divadelních představení. Patří sem třeba i Land Art – umělecký směr, který pracuje s přírodními materiály a instalacemi ve volném prostoru. Další programová linie je věnovaná západočeskému ba- roku. Plzeňský kraj je historicky spojen s katolickou církví a zůstala zde řada barokních památek, od kostelů a ven- kovských statků až po šlechtické zá- mečky. Projekt Evropského hlavního města kultury chce využít i industriální dě- dictví. Dnes nepoužívané budovy prů- myslových podniků a starých pivovarů se mohou snadno proměnit v kulturní centra a sídla organizací. Šance vybudovat lepší Plzeň Ne každé město může být výklad- ní skříní evropské kultury. Evropská unie uděluje titul hlavního města kul- tury každý rok dvěma sídlům, která ji zaujmou svým kulturním potenciálem. Této pocty se už dostalo třeba Liver- poolu, Rotterdamu, Kodani a řadě dal- ších. Město, jež titul získá, se na jeden rok dostane do středu pozornosti tu- ristů, umělců a médií z celé Evropy. Hlavním motivem projektu Plzeň 2015 je otevřenost změnám, novým myšlen- kám, názorům a kulturám i otevřenost návštěvníkům ze zahraničí. Staví se nové divadlo. Areál někdejšího pivo- varu Světovar se promění v centrum moderního umění a designu a bude sloužit studentům uměleckých oborů, aby si Plzeň své talenty udržela a dala jim příležitost dál se rozvíjet. European Capital of Culture 2015 7 En/ Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015 dE/ Pilsen – Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2015 For decades, Pilsen has been seen mainly as the industrial city. It has, however, a rich tradition of culture. The city is home to a theatre with drama, musical, ballet and opera troupes, a theatre for children and the youth, philharmonics and dozens of smaller, both traditional and experimental, musical and dance troupes. Many artists reside and work in the city. There are arts schools, both on the primary and univer- sity levels. Pilsen is a city characterised by a unique concentration of artists and creative people. The European Capital of Culture title is a great opportunity that Pilsen is deter- mined to use to the maximum extent. The project is accompanied by a rich program consisting of many exhibitions, concerts and theatre performances, including land art. Another program line is dedicated to baroque art in Western Bohemia. The Pilsen region is historically connected to the Catholic Church and it has many Baroque heritage sites, from churches and country mansions to chateaux of the nobility. The European Capital of Culture project wants to use the industrial legacy too. The derelict buildings of industrial companies and old breweries can be easily turned into culture centres and premises of cultural organisations. A chance to build a better Pilsen Not every city can become the showcase of European culture. Every year the European Union bestows the Capital of Culture title on two cities that attract attention by their cultural potential. In the past, such honour has been bestowed upon Liverpool, Rotterdam, Copenhagen and others. The Capital of Culture gets attention of tourists, artists and the media from the whole Europe. The main theme of the Pilsen 2015 project is openness to change, new ideas, opin- ions and cultures, as well as openness to foreign visitors. A new theatre is being built. The premises of the former Světovar brewery are being turned into the centre of modern art and design and it will serve to students of art so that Pilsen can keep its talents and give them an opportunity to develop. This is only the beginning of changes that will make life in Pilsen richer. www.plzen2015.net Viele Jahrzehnte lang wurde Pilsen vor allem als wichtiger Industriestandort wahrgenommen. Die Stadt verfügt jedoch auch über eine reiche kulturelle Tradition: Es gibt ein Theater mit einem Schauspiel-, Musical-, Ballett- und Opernensemble, ein Kinder- und Jugendtheater, eine Philharmonie und eine Reihe kleinerer traditioneller wie auch experimenteller Theater-, Musik- und Tanzensembles. Darüber hinaus sind hier viele bildende Künstler zuhause. Kunst wird von der Grund- bis zur Hochschule als Ausbildungsfach angeboten und Pilsen ist eine Stadt mit einer außergewöhnlich hohen Konzentration an Künstlern und Kreativen. Der Titel „Europäische Kulturhauptstadt“ bietet Chancen, die Pilsen restlos nutzen möchte. Das Projekt wird von einem breitgefächerten Programm begleitet, das eine Vielzahl von Ausstellungen, Konzerten und Theatervorstellungen umfasst. Dazu gehört z.B. auch Land Art – eine Kunstrichtung, die mit Naturmaterialien und Installationen im freien Raum arbeitet. Eine weitere Programmkomponente ist dem westböhmischen Barock gewidmet: Die Region Pilsen ist historisch eng mit der katholischen Kirche verbunden und reich an barocken Bauwerken, von Kirchen und Landgütern bis hin zu kleinen Adelsschlössern. Darüber hinaus soll im Rahmen des Projekts „Europäische Kulturhauptstadt“ auch das industrielle Erbe der Stadt nutzbar gemacht werden: Stillgelegte Industriegebäude und ehemalige Brauereien lassen sich leicht in Kulturzentren und Sitze von Organisationen umwandeln. Die Chance zur Veränderung NichtjedeStadteignetsichalsSchaufenster der europäischen Kultur. Die EU erteilt diesen Titel jährlich an zwei Städte, die sich durch ihr kulturelles Potenzial auszeichnen. Diese Ehre wurde in der Vergangenheit bereits Liverpool, Rotterdam, Kopenhagen und einer Reihe weiterer Städte zuteil. Die Stadt, die Träger des Titels ist, rückt ein Jahr lang ins Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit von Touristen, Künstlern und Medien aus ganz Europa. Wichtigstes Motiv des Projekts Pilsen 2015 ist die Offenheit für Veränderungen, für neue Ideen, Sichtweisen und Kulturen wie auch die Offenheit gegenüber Besuchern aus dem Ausland. Derzeit wird ein neues Theatergebaut.DasGeländederehemaligen Brauerei Světovar verwandelt sich in ein Zentrum für moderne Kunst und Design, das Studenten künstlerischer Fächer zur Verfügung stehen soll, damit sich die Stadt ihre Talente erhält und ihnen Gelegenheit zur Weiterentwicklung gibt. Evropské hlavní město kultury 20158 Cz/ Pivovar Plzeňský Prazdroj Dnes je Plzeňský Prazdroj moderním pivovarem, který zároveň opatruje a pro své provozy stále využívá unikátní indu- striální památky a je zařazen do prestižní sítě turistických atraktivit ERIH (Evrop- ské cesty industriálního dědictví). Denně je možné absolvovat prohlídku pivovaru v českém, anglickém nebo německém jazyce. Časy prohlídek zjistíte po telefonu nebo na webových stránkách. Tradice lidových řemesel Plzeňský Prazdroj jako jediný pivovar v České republice a pravděpodobně i v Evropě dodnes zaměstnává partu pivovarských bednářů a udržuje toto historické řemeslo na živu. Bednáři Pl- zeňského Prazdroje dokonce nedávno převzali titul Nositel tradice lidových řemesel. Ocenění, které uděluje ministr kultury, založilo UNESCO pod názvem Žijící lidské poklady. „Je to pocta řemes- lu jako takovému, ocenění tradice, která musí pokračovat,“ říká Josef Hrůza, bed- nářský mistr, který ocenění přebíral. Bednáři jsou důležitým článkem při výro- bě piva Pilsner Urquell tradiční metodou kvašení a zrání v pivovarských sklepech. Malá část produkce piva Pilsner Urquell se stále vyrábí tímto tradičním způsobem a slouží ke kontrole kvality piva vyrábě- ného za pomoci moderních technologií. Zároveň ho mohou ochutnat návštěvníci na prohlídce pivovaru. Hlavní náplní práce bednářů je výroba a údržba velkých ležáckých sudů a spi- lečných kádí z dubového dřeva pro kva- šení piva. V poslední době k tomu přibyly i menší soudky, které se dělají v obje- mech od dvou litrů. Ty nejmenší jsou ob- líbenou originální upomínkou na návště- vu pivovaru. Sedmnáctilitrové a větší se dají naplnit pivem Pilsner Urquell a jsou určeny na prodej nebo pro export. Výsledky práce pivovarských bednářů si můžete prohlédnout během prohlídky pivovaru a některé si dokonce zakoupit v Dárkové prodejně na jeho nádvoří. Pivovarské muzeum Kousek od náměstí na vás v právová- rečném domě z 15. století dýchne at- mosféra středověku. Zde se nachází Pi- vovarské muzeum, které vypráví příběh o výrobě a způsobu podávání a pití piva od jeho vzniku v dávné Mezopotámii až do dnešních dní. European Capital of Culture 2015 9 En/ Pilsner Urquell Brewery First brewed in 1842 in Pilsen, the Pilsner Urquell lager belongs among the symbols of the Czech Republic. Its fame has spread worldwide and it has become an inspiration for over two-thirds of pils beers produced globally. Today, Pilsner Urquell is a state-of-the-art brewery, maintaining and using unique industrial heritage sites at the same time. As such it is a member of the prestigious program called European Roads of the Industrial Heritage, ERIH. Brewery tours are offered daily in Czech, English and German language.. The schedule of tours is published on the website or can be obtained via telephone. Keeping the tradition of folk crafts Pilsner Urquell is the only brewery in the Czech Republic and perhaps in Europe that still employs a group of brewery coopers and keeps the craft alive. The coopers of Pilsner Urquell brewery were recently awarded the title Keeper of the Folk Crafts. The title, awarded by the Minister of Culture, was established by the UNESCO under the title Living Human Treasures. “It is an honour for the craft as such, an honour for the tradition which must continue,” says the master cooper Josef Hrůza, who received the award. The coopers are an important factor in the production of Pilsner Urquell beer by the traditional method of fermenting and ageing in the brewery cellars. A small part of the overall volume is still produced by this traditional method and serves for a comparative control of beer produced by modern technologies. This beer is also available for tasting to the visitors on their tour through the brewery. The work of thecoopers consists in manufacturing and maintaining of large beer barrels and fermentation vessels made of oak. Recently, they have started producing small barrels, the smallest of which have volumes of 2 litres and are popular among the tourists as a souvenir. The barrels of 17 litres and more are filled with beer and offered for sale or for export. You can see the work of the coopers during the tour. Some of the barrels are also available for sale from the gift shop in the brewery courtyard. The Brewery Museum A 15th century house near the main square will give you a taste of the Middle Ages. It is home to the Brewery Museum which tells the story of beer making, serving and drinking from the beginnings in the ancient Mesopotamia to present. Träger volkstümlicher Handwerkstraditionen Als einzige Brauerei der Tschechischen Republik – und wohl auch Europas – beschäftigt Pilsner Urquell bis heute ein Team von Böttchern und hält so dieses historische Handwerk am Leben. Den Böttchern der Pilsner-Urquell-Brauerei wurde kürzlich der Titel „Träger volks- tümlicher Handwerkstraditionen“ zuteil. Diese vom tschechischen Kulturminis- terium verliehene Auszeichnung wurde ursprünglich von der UNESCO unter der Bezeichnung „Immaterielles Kulturerbe“ ins Leben gerufen. „Der Titel bedeutet eine Ehrung des Handwerks an sich wie auch die Wertschätzung einer Tradition, die es zu wahren gilt“, meint Böttcher- meister Josef Hrůza, der die Auszeichnung entgegennahm. Die Böttcher sind ein wichtiges Glied im Herstellungsprozess von Pilsner Urquell durch die traditionelle Methode der Gärung und Reifung des Biers in Brauereikellern. Ein kleiner Teil der Pilsner-Urquell-Produktion wird noch immer auf traditionelle Art hergestellt und dient zur Qualitätskontrolle für das mittels moderner Technologie erzeugte Bier. Dieses originale Bier kann bei einer Brauereibesichtigung von den Besuchern gekostet werden. Die Hauptarbeit der Böttcher besteht in der Herstellung und Instandhaltung der großen, aus Eichenholz gefertigten Lagerfässer und Gärbottiche für die Biererzeugung. In letzter Zeit kam noch die Herstellung kleinerer Fässer ab einem Volumen von zwei Litern hinzu. Die kleinsten davon sind ein bei Touristen äußerst beliebtes Originalandenken an ihren Brauereibesuch. Fässer ab 17 Liter können mit Pilsner Urquell gefüllt werden und sind für den Verkauf oder Export bestimmt. Die Erzeugnisse der Böttcher kann man bei einem Besuch der Brauerei besichtigen und einige davon kann man im Geschenkshop auf dem Brauereihof sogar kaufen. Das Brauereimuseum Unweit des Náměstí Republiky, in einem brauberechtigten Haus aus dem 15. Jahr- hundert, schlägt dem Besucher eine mittelalterliche Atmosphäre entgegen. Hier befindet sich das Brauereimuseum (Pivovarské muzeum), das die Geschichte der Herstellung wie auch der Servier- und Genussformen des Biers von seiner Entstehung im alten Mesopotamien bis in die Gegenwart erzählt. Přesto ho spousta lidí považuje za Plzeňana. jakožto vůdčí osobnost viktorky jste se stal výraznou plzeňskou osobností. Cítíte se tu doma? Plzeň se opravdu za ty roky stala mým druhým domovem. Ne- jen že se k městu a jeho obyvatelům hrdě hlásím, ale po tré- nincích nebo zápasech často nejezdím do Prahy, ale přespá- vám tady. máte čas poznat něco víc než jen stadion a hotel? Snažím se. Již mnohokrát sem za mnou přijela rodina a pod- nikli jsme výlety k Boleveckým rybníkům, do ZOO nebo se jen tak prošli po centru. V okolí Plzně už jsem byl také na rybách, takže mám prošlápnutou i oblast „za humny“. kam byste vzal přátele, kteří by vás přijeli navštívit? Určitě do centra, na věž. A nováčci by určitě neměli minout ani prohlídku pivovaru. Ale první kroky by v každém případě vedly do Doosan Areny ve Štruncových sadech. Na ten sta- dion a atmosféru, kterou nám v něm naši fanoušci pravidelně vytvářejí, jsem doopravdy pyšný. a co nějaká oblíbená restaurace? Není tajemstvím, že si na jídlo potrpím a v tomto směru je mou oblíbenou destinací restaurace Na Parkáně. Tam někdy lehce hřeším. viktorka má před sebou evropské jaro. na koho z po- tenciálních soupeřů se vy osobně nejvíc těšíte? Přál bych si takový tým, aby byl atraktivní pro fanoušky a při- tom bychom měli reálnou šanci postoupit přes něj do dalších bojů. Z tohoto důvodu bych se nebránil třeba soupeřům z Ně- mecka. viktoria Plzeň si splnila něco jako americký sen: z klubu, který neměl zrovna zvučné jméno, se bě- hem krátké doby vypracovala na mistra ligy a vidět je i na evropských trávnících. jak se dá takového obratu dosáhnout? Sešli se zde výborní hráči, skvělý trenér, rozumné vedení – a neskutečná fotbalová horečka. Nestali jsme se úspěšný- mi přes noc, o to je tento úspěch cennější. Many people, however, think of him as a Pilsener. Der Mannschaftskapitän von FC Viktoria Plzeň wurde in Prag geboren, wo er heute auch lebt. Trotzdem wird er von vielen Leuten für einen Pilsener gehalten. as the captain of viktoria you have become a major personality of the city. do you feel like home here? Yes, Plzeň has become my second home. I am proud of the city and its inhabitants and often, after training and matches, I don’t drive to Prague but stay here overnight. do you have time to get acquainted with more than just the stadium and the hotel? I do try to. I have been often joined by my family here and we have made trips to Bolevec lakes, gone to the local Zoo or just walked in the centre. I have also gone angling outside Pilsen so I do know the environment. Where would you take your friend if they came for a visit? Definitely to the centre, to the tower. And the newcomers to Pilsen should not miss the brewery tour. But their very first steps would certainly lead to Doosan Arena, in Štrunc’s Park. I am really proud of this stadium and the atmosphere created there by our fans. a favourite restaurant? It’s no secret that I like to eat and since you ask the Na Parkáně restaurant is my favourite destination as far as eating is concerned. It’s there that I like to trespass the rules slightly. you are going to play the European cup in the spring. of all the potential rivals, whom would you prefer? I would like to play against a team that is attractive for the fans and, at the same time, that leaves us with a real chance to succeed to the next round. It is for this reason that I have no objections against the German teams. viktoria Plzeň has fulfilled a kind of american dream: an underrated club has won the Czech league and is successful in Europe. How is it possible at all to achieve such a turn of fortune? Excellent players have met here, a great coach, a clever management – and an incredible football frenzy. We have not become successful overnight, all the more valuable this achievement is. And I do believe that we will enjoy this Pilsen football fairy-tale for a long time. als kapitän von viktoria sind Sie jetzt ein berühmter Pilsener. fühlen Sie sich hier zuhause? Pilsen ist in diesen Jahren wirklich zu meiner zweiten Heimat geworden. Ich bekenne mich nicht nur stolz zu der Stadt und ihren Einwohnern, sondern ich fahre auch nach dem Training oder nach Spielen oft nicht nach Prag, sondern übernachte hier. Haben Sie denn zeit, ein bisschen mehr von der Stadt kennenzulernen als das Stadion und das Hotel? Ich gebe mir Mühe. Meine Familie hat mich hier schon mehrmals besucht und wir haben Ausflüge zu den Bolevecer Teichen gemacht, sind in den ZOO gegangen oder einfach durchs Stadt- zentrum gebummelt. Ich war schon in der Umgebung von Pilsen angeln, habe also auch schon die Gegend außerhalb der Stadt erkundet. Wenn freunde Sie hier besuchen kommen – wohin würden Sie mit ihnen gehen? Bestimmt ins Stadtzentrum, auf den Turm. Und wenn man zum ersten Mal hier ist, sollte man sich auch eine Führung durch die Brauerei nicht entgehen lassen. Die ersten Schritte würden aber auf jeden Fall in die Doosan-Arena im Štrunc- Park führen. Auf dieses Stadion und die tolle Atmosphäre, für die unsere Fans dort regelmäßig sorgen, bin ich wirklich stolz. HabenSiehiereinlieblingsrestaurant? Ich mache kein Hehl daraus, dass ich ein Faible für gutes Essen habe. Mein Favorit in dieser Hinsicht ist das Re- staurant Na Parkáně. Dort gerate ich manchmal ein bisschen ins Sündigen. der fC viktoria hat die europäische frühjahrssaison vor sich. auf welchen ihrer potenziellen gegner freuen Sie sich persönlich am meisten? Ich würde mir ein Team wünschen, das attraktiv für die Fans ist und bei dem wir eine reale Chance haben, weiterzu- kommen. Deshalb hätte ich zum Beispiel gegen einen Gegner aus Deutschland nichts einzuwenden. viktoria Pilsen hat sich so etwas wie einen amerikanischen traum erfüllt: aus einem Club mit einem nicht gerade klangvollen namen hat sich die mannschaft binnen kurzem zum tabellenführer gemausert und ist auch auf europäischen Spielfel- dern zu sehen. Wie war ein solcher Wandel möglich? Hier sind ausgezeichnete Spieler, ein guter Trainer, ein kluges Management und eine unglaubliche Fußballbegeiste- rung zusammengekommen. Der Erfolg hat sich nicht über Nacht eingestellt – umso wertvoller ist er uns. Und ich glaube, wir sollten dieses Pilsener Fußballmärchen zusammen so lange wie möglich genießen.

Evropské hlavní město kultury 201512 Cz/ StarÉ tradiCE Masopust a Velikonoce – čas průvodů a radosti Čas od Tří králů do Popeleční středy býval i pro obyvatele Pl- zeňska obdobím veselí a nekázně. Konaly se plesy, bály a zá- bavy. Vesnicemi i městy chodily rozpustilé průvody. Masopust vrcholil úterým. Veselí začínalo brzy po poledni a rázně končilo s půlnocí. Nastávalo období přísného půstu. Zbývalo už jen obřadně pochovat Bakchuse, a tak definitivně až do Velikonoc přestat s radovánkami. Na Zelený čtvrtek umlkly všechny zvony, a městy a vesnicemi se nesl ryk řehtaček, s nimiž obcházeli chlapci po staveních a koledovali. Ranní mše na Bílou sobotu byla v Plzni nadána zvláštní výsadou: účast na ní tři roky po sobě plně nahrazovala kajícnou pouť do Říma. Večer pak všichni chodili na „Vzkříše- ní“. V Plzni bývala při této příležitosti okna všech domů na ná- městí osvětlena svíčkami, hrála tu hudba, a jednotlivé části obřadu doprovázely salvy. Na Boží hod velikonoční zářila města i vesnice pestrobarevný- mi kroji. V Plzni se ještě počátkem 18. století konal tento den velkolepý průvod. Pondělí pak bylo dnem pomlázky. Koledníci dostávali vejce, bochníčky, oblečení, svaté obrázky, nebo i roz- marýn či myrtu. Do současnosti se ze všech těchto zvyků dochovalo jen pra- málo. V devadesátých letech byla oživena tradice masopust- ních průvodů. V Plzni chodí každoročně dva. Jeden vyráží od zoologické zahrady a končí u Kalikovského mlýna, druhý začíná na náměstí a vrcholí veselicí v areálu pivovaru a večerní zábavou v restauraci Na Spilce. Velikonoční program připra- vuje ZOO či Pivovarské muzeum. Návštěvníci se v rámci pro- hlídek budou moci zapojit do velikonočních her. Budou hle- dat velikonoční motivy v expozici muzea, měřit hradby, anebo si připomenou známá velikonoční pořekadla a říkanky. Silné masopustní a velikonoční zážitky nabízí nedaleké Chod- sko – jediná oblast Čech, kde dosud přežívají staré tradice i lidové kroje. Zde se každoročně koná vyhlášený masopust v Postřekově, na nějž míří hosté i ze vzdálených míst republiky.

European Capital of Culture 2015 13 En/ old traditionS Carnival and Easter – Time of processions and joy dE/ altE traditionEn Karneval und Ostern – eine Zeit der Umzüge und Freuden The time from the Twelfth Day to Ash Wednesday used to be a period of joy and unruliness for the inhabitants of the Pilsen region. There were balls, parties, concerts, processions moved through the villages and the towns. The Carnival culminated on Tuesday. The entertainment started shortly after the noon and then everything abruptly ended at midnight. The fasting period started. Bacchus was to be buried ceremoniously and all entertainment ceased until Easter. On Green Thursday the bells kept silent and the only sound to be heard in towns and villages was the sound of rattles as the boys went house to house and asked for gifts. The White Saturday morning mass was something that was endowed with a privilege in Pilsen: if you attended the mass three years in a row, it amounted to a pilgrimage to Rome. In the evening, everybody went to the “Resurrection”. At this event, all the windows in the square were lit by candles, music played and salvos accompanied the individual parts of the ceremony. On Easter Day the towns and villages shone with multicoloured folk costumes. As late as the 18th century, Pilsen hosted a mass procession. On Easter Monday, boys went round the communities and asked for gifts in the form of eggs, bread, clothes, holy pictures or rosemary and mirth. Only a fraction of these customs have survived. The tradition of the Carnival processions was revived in the 1990s. There are two processions in Pilsen every year: one starts near the zoo and ends at the Kalikov mill, the second starts in the square and culminates by a ceremony in the brewery and night entertainment in the Na Spilce restaurant. The Easter programs are organised by ZOO and the Brewery Museum. The visitors can join Easter games as a part of their tour: they will be looking for Easter motives in the museum expositions, they will be measuring the city walls or they will remind themselves of Easter sayings and rhymes. The nearby Chodsko region offers a strong carnival experience as it is the only part of the country where folk traditions and costumes have survived. The region hosts the famous carnival in Postřekov, attended by guests from all over the country. Die Zeit zwischen den Heiligen drei Königen und Aschermittwoch war auch für die Einwohner Pilsens eine Zeit der Heiterkeit und Undiszipliniertheit. Es wurden Bälle und Partys veranstaltet. Fröhliche Festzüge prozessierten durch Städte und Dörfer. Karneval hatte seinen Höhepunkt am Faschingsdienstag. Das Feiern begann kurz nach Mittag und endete abrupt um Mitternacht. Nun folgte eine Zeit strengen Fastens. Bacchus wurde rituell zu Grabe getragen und das Feiern bis Ostern eingestellt. Am Grünen Donnerstag verstummten alle Glocken. Städte und Dörfer tönten vom Ratschen der Schnarren, mit denen die Jungen singend von Haus zu Haus zogen. Die morgendliche Karsamstagsmesse war in Pilsen mit einem besonderen Privileg verknüpft: Eine Beteiligung in drei aufeinanderfolgenden Jahren ersetzte einen Bußgang nach Rom. Am Abend gingen dann alle zur „Auferstehung“. In Pilsen wurden bei dieser Gelegenheit die Fenster aller Häuser am Platz mit Kerzen erleuchtet, es spielte Musik und einzelne Teile der Zeremonie wurden von Salven begleitet. Zum Ostersonntag leuchteten Städte und Dörfer von vielfarbigen Trachten. In Pilsen fand noch zu Beginn des 18. Jahr- hunderts an diesem Tag eine großartige Prozession statt. Der Montag war dann der Tag der Osterruten (pomlázky): Mit geflochtenen Weidenruten bewaffnet, zogen die Burschen singend durch die Straßen und schlugen symbolisch die Mädchen, um sie zu „verjüngen“. Die Sänger bekamen Eier, kleine Brotlaibe, Kleidung und Heiligenbilder oder auch Rosmarin oder Myrte geschenkt. In der heutigen Zeit haben sich all diese Bräuche nur recht spärlich erhalten. In den neunziger Jahren wurde die Tradition der Karnevalszüge wiederbelebt. In Pilsen finden jährlich zwei davon statt. Einer beginnt am zoologischen Garten und endet an der Kalikovský-Mühle (Kalikovský mlýn). Der andere beginnt am Náměstí Republiky und mündet in eine Party auf dem Brauereigelände und eine Abendver- anstaltung im Restaurant Na Spilce. Das Osterprogramm wird vom ZOO oder vom Brauereimuseum gestaltet. Im Rahmen der Zoo- oder Brauereibesichtigungen können die Besucher an einem Osterspiel teilnehmen. Dabei werden z.B. in der Ausstellung des Museums Ostermotive gesucht, Mauern vermessen oder alte Ostersprüche ins Gedächtnis gerufen. EinbeeindruckendesOstererlebnisverspricht die nahegelegene Region Chodsko, die einzige Gegend in Böhmen, wo sich bis jetzt alte Traditionen und Volkstrachten gehalten haben. Hier findet jedes Jahr der berühmte Karneval von Postřekov statt, der auch Gäste aus weit entfernten Teilen der Tschechischen Republik anzieht.

Evropské hlavní město kultury 201514 Cz/ Smetanovské dny 2013 Smetanovské dny budou plné fikcí a mystifikací 02–21/03 Festival Smetanovské dny se letos ponese v duchu tématu Historické fikce a mystifikace v české kultuře 19. století, a kromě hudby klasické nabídne i hudební současnost. Jeho největší hvězdou bude vynikající ruský violoncellista Denis Shapovalov či izraelský houslista Hagai Shaham. Smetanovské dny patří k tradičním pl- zeňským akcím; v roce 2013 se usku- teční už po třiatřicáté. Festival vzdává hold otci české operní a symfonické tvorby Bedřichu Smetanovi, jenž v Plzni studoval. Letos je poprvé jeho organi- zátorem Plzeňská filharmonie. Akcemi plnými krásné hudby a slova bude Plzeň žít po celý březen. Festival zahájí rozměrné dílo předního českého skladatele vrcholného baroka Jana Dismase Zelenky Missa Sanc- tissimae Trinitatis. Novodobá plzeňská premiéra této mše v provedení souboru Ensemble Inégal se uskuteční 2. břez- na od 19 hodin v kulturním domě Peklo. O den později nabídne festival zkrácenou podobu opery Prodaná nevěsta určenou dětskému publiku. Úchvatný zážitek jis- tě přinese koncert Sedláčkova kvarteta v katedrále sv. Bartoloměje, kde zazní 12. března Sedm slov Vykupitelových na kříži Josepha Haydna, které umělec- kým přednesem doplní Alfréd Strejček. Jedním z vrcholů festivalu bude koncert Plzeňské filharmonie, s níž vystoupí feno- menální ruský violoncellista Denis Shapo- valov (foto 1). Pod vedením šéfdirigenta Kojiho Kawamoto zaznějí skladby Petra Iljiče Čajkovského a Antonína Dvořáka. Koncert se koná 14. března v Měšťan- ské besedě. Na závěrečném koncertu 21. března vystoupí Pražská komorní filharmonie společně s izraelskou houslo- vou hvězdou Hagaiem Shahamem. Smetanovské dny pamatují i na hudbu současnou. Proto nabídnou třeba komor- ní koncert věnovaný plzeňským skladate- lům 20. a 21. století, koncert elektronické taneční hudby a jazzu v podání Petra Waj- sara, či vystoupení „Blízká setkání“ Zory Jandové a Zdeňka Merty. Na koncertě 17. března v Měšťanské besedě se zase představí studenti plzeňských umělec- kých škol, čerství držitelé prestižní ceny Plzeňský Orfeus. Od velikánů české hudby k současnosti provede posluchače Isha Trio (foto 2). To sestavilo koncert směřující od Bedřicha Smetany přes Leoše Janáčka a Petra Ebena až ke skladbám z posledních let. European Capital of Culture 2015 15 En/ the Smetana´s days festival The Smetana Days will be full of fictions and mystifications dE/ die Smetana-tage 2013 Voll Fiktion und Mystifizierung: die Smetana-Tage March 2–March 21, 2013 This year, the Smetana Days festival will be characterised by the theme of historical fiction and mystification in the Czech culture of the 19th century and it will offer both classical and modern music. The excellent Russian cellist Denis Shapovalov will be its main star. The Smetana Days belong among the traditional Pilsen events: 2013 will see its 33rd edition already. The festival gives homage to the father of the Czech opera and symphonic music, Bedřich Smetana, who studied in Pilsen. This year, for the first time, the event is organised by the Pilsen Philharmonic. Pilsen will enjoy events full of beautiful music events throughout March. The event will open by the Missa Sanc- tissimae Trinitatis by the leading Czech Baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. The new premiere of this work by Ensemble Inégal will take place on march 2, 7 p.m. in the Peklo cultural house. A day later Pilsen will see a shortened version of The Bartered Bride, adapted for the children´s audience. On march 12, the Sedláček Quartet will perform Joseph Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour On the Cross in the St Bartholomew Cathedral. The concert of the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied by the Russian cellist Denis Shapovalov (photo 1), will be the highlight of the festival. Conducted by Koji Kawamoto, the orchestra will perform works by Petr I. Tchaikovsky and Antonín Dvořák. The concert takes place on march 14 in Měšťanská beseda. The Smetana Days, however, will not neglect contemporary music. There will be a chamber concert dedicated to the Pilsen composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, a concert of electronic dance music and jazz by Petr Wajsar, as well as concerts of the singers Zora Jandová and Zdeněk Merta. The student of Pilsen music schools who were awarded the Pilsen Orpheus prize, will perform on a concert on march 17 in Měšťanská beseda. Isha Trio (photo 2) will lead the way from the giants of Czech music towards the present. The trio will perform a concert consisting of pieces by Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček and Petr Eben, as well as works from the most recent years. The composition of the contemporary Pilsen composer Karel Pexidr will be performed in the world premiere. www.smetanovskedny.cz Das Festival gehört zu den traditionellen Pilsener Veranstaltungen und findet 2013 bereits zum dreiunddreißigsten Mal statt. Es ist eine Hommage an den Vater der tschechischen Oper und sinfonischen Musik Bedřich Smetana, der in Pilsen studierte. In diesem Jahr werden die Smetana-Tage erstmals von der Pilsener Philharmonie organisiert. Den ganzen März hindurch belebt sich die Stadt mit Veranstaltungen voll schöner Musik und Sprache. Eröffnet wird das Festival mit einer Kom- position des führenden tschechischen Hochbarock-Komponisten Jan Dismas Zelenka: Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis. Das Konzert, bei dem es sich um die erste Pilsener Aufführung der Komposition in der Neuzeit handelt, findet am 2. märz ab 19 Uhr im Kulturhaus Peklo statt, es spielt das Ensemble Inégal. Einen Tag später steht eine gekürzte, für Kinder bestimmte Fassung der Oper „Die verkaufte Braut“ auf dem Programm. Ein überwältigen- des Musikerlebnis verspricht auch der Auftritt des Sedláček-Quartetts in der St.-Bartholomäus-Kathedrale. Hier wird am 12. märz Haydns Komposition „Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze“ erklingen. Höhepunkt des Festivals ist ein gemein- sames Konzert der Pilsener Philharmonie und des phänomenalen russischen Vio- loncellisten Denis Schapowalow (Foto 1). Unter der Leitung des Chefdirigenten Kojiho Kawamoto werden Werke von Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowski und Antonín Dvořák gespielt. Das Konzert findet am 14. märz im Kulturzentrum Měšťanská beseda statt. Die Smetana-Tage verstehen sich jedoch auch als Forum für zeitgenössische Musik. Das Programm umfasst daher u.a. ein Kammerkonzert, das Pilsener Komponisten des 20. und 21. Jedině zde mohou diváci zhlédnout úplně všechny nové celovečerní filmy a také výběr z nejlepších nových do- kumentů. Snímky zařazené do soutěží bojují o prestižní ocenění, Zlatého led- ňáčka. Kromě ohlédnutí za minulým rokem nabízí festival ve svém progra- mu i další atraktivní sekce zaměřené tematicky či na významné filmové osobnosti. European Capital of Culture 2015 17 En/ the major culture events of the coming weeks Žebřík for the 20th time Pilsen has a strong tradition of rock music and it comes almost naturally that one of the major annual events in the city is associated with rock: the awards of the prestigious chart by the iREPORT journal, Žebřík. It will be held on march 15 in Parkhotel this year. The visitors can look forward to the performances of the popular bands such as Nightwork, Chinaski, Prago Union, Celeste Buckingham and others. www.ireport.cz/hlasovani Celebration of youth, may celebration The student May celebration has a long tradition in Pilsen. The last days of April are dedicated to various student compe- titions and games that culminate in the voting for the King of the Majales (May festivities) and a procession through the centre of the city. The whole event is then concluded by Majales Open Air, the biggest open-air festival in Pilsen, held in the Europe’s largest natural amphitheatre Lochotín. This year it will take place on april 27. Three stages of the festival will see more than three dozens of performers and there will be a rich accompanying entertaining program. www.plzen.majales.cz film evaluation Every year Pilsen hosts the film festival The Finale Pilsen; this year it will run from april 21 to april 27. The Finale Pilsen is a kind of survey, offering a complex perspective on the work of the Czech film-makers in the past twelve months. It is only here that the spectators can see all the new feature films and a selection of the best documentaries. Those films that are entered in the competition fight for the prestigious Golden Kingfisher award. Besides a retrospective of the past year the festival offers other attractive sections which are focused thematically or deal with important film personalities. This year, among other things, it will bring a selec- tion of German films that will include the best German films of the past two years, a perspective on archive films with the emphasis on Czech-German partnership and, last but not least, several expert panel discussions (photo 1). www.festivalfinale.cz thank you, america! The performance takes place in Velké divadlo. faust and gretchen In Velké divadlo, the opera troupe of J.K. Tyl’s Theatre will resurrect the figure of the legendary Doctor Faustus who sells his soul to the devil. Of many opera vari- ations on the Faustian topic the troupe has chosen the most popular one written by Charles Gounod. His lyrical opera belongs among the very best of the 19th century French opera. The first night is scheduled for january 19 in Velké divadlo. The performance is in French original with Czech subtitles. james Blond (photo 3) One of the most popular toy-puppet shows of Divadlo Alfa (photo 4) will please not just the lovers of the famous agent 007 and his pretty blond girlfriends. It is a witty pun, a satire on the whole Hollywood industry. You can look forward for shoot- outs, chases, even a toy strip-tease! The multiple prize-awarded show is suitable for older children, youth and adults. Parsifal Live shows from the Metropolitan Opera in New York will bring, on march 2, the last opera by Richard Wagner, a mediae- val legend about the Holy Grail, starring Jonas Kaufmann, accompanied by great Wagnerian singers Katarina Dalayman, Peter Mattei, Yevgeny Nikitin and René Pape. The opera is directed by François Girard, conducted by Daniele Gatti. Evropské hlavní město kultury 201520 Cz/ galerie a muzea pro děti i dospělé Na nákup do staré Plzně Výstava v Národopisném muzeu na náměstí Republiky zavádí návštěvníky do 19. století, kdy se běžný nákup pořídil na trhu či u hokynáře a pro lepší zboží se chodilo do koloniálu. Obdivovat tu můžeme krásně zdobené krabice na čaj či kávu, ale také vybavení obchodů, jaké dnes už žádný obchodník nepoužívá. Expozici pak vévodí veliký vývěsní štít starého obchodu zbožím koloniálním: dvě propletené mořské panny. Výstava trvá do 7. dubna. Palmy na Vltavě (foto 3) Západočeská galerie připravila do Masných krámů výstavu, která mapuje vlivy původních kultur Ameriky, Afriky a Oceánie na české výtvarné umění v letech 1850 až 1950. Návštěvník tu může posoudit, jak se kultura primitivních národů odrážela v tvorbě středoevropských výtvarníků a jak se její vnímání s léty proměňovalo. Výstava trvá od 30. ledna do 28. dubna. Muzeum loutek (foto 2) Plzeň se může pochlubit i významnou loutkářskou tradicí. Narodil se zde světoznámý autor animovaných a loutkových filmů Jiří Trnka. Jeho středoškolským profesorem byl Josef Skupa, autor nejslavnějších českých loutek, Spejbla a Hurvínka. Oba však stavěli na tradici mnohem starší a širší, na tradici starých loutkových divadel. S ní malé i velké návštěvníky seznamuje moderně pojednaná expozice Muzea loutek, kde nechybí ani interaktivní zábava. Pivovarské muzeum Muzeum láká nejen na svou stálou, poutavou expozici, ale i na výstavu Pivovar v obrazech, 170 let areálu Plzeňského Prazdroje, která dokumentuje vývoj celého areálu pivovaru na plánech, obrazech a řadě předmětů. Představuje i významné architekty, kteří se podíleli nejen na výstavbě budov a technických zařízení plzeňského pivovaru, ale zanechali stopy i v architektuře města Plzně. Plzeň je sídlem řady atraktivních muzeí a desítek galerií. Všechny návštěvník nalezne v historickém centru města. Nejvýznamnější sbírky spravuje Západočeská galerie (foto 1, Výstavní síň „13“), Západočeské mu- zeum, Muzeum církevního umění plzeňské diecéze a Galerie města Plzně, ale zajímavé výstavy připravují i další instituce. 2 1

All of them are located in the historical centre of the city. The most important collections are managed by the Gallery of West Bohemia (photo 1, Výstavní síň „13“), the Museum of West Bohemia, The Museum of the Church Art of the Pilsen Bishopric and the Gallery of the City of Pilsen, but interesting exhibitions are put on by other organisations as well. Shopping in the old Pilsen The exhibition in the Museum of Ethnogra- phy in the Republic Square takes us back into the 19th century when shopping was done in the market or at a grocer whereas better goods were sold in the general stores. In the exhibition you can admire richly decorated tea or coffee boxes, as well as the equipment of the store which you won’t see anywhere today. The crown of the whole exhibition is a large shop sign for an old store selling colonial goods: two intertwined mermaids. The exhibition will run until april 7. Palms at the vltava (photo 3) The Gallery of West Bohemia has installed an exhibition in Masné kramy that traces the influence of the original cultures of Americas, Africa and Oceania on the Czech art between 1850 and 1950. The visitors can see how the culture of the primitive nations was reflected in the works of the Central European artists and how the perception changed over the years. The exhibition runs from january 30 to april 28. the museum of Puppets (photo 2) Pilsen can boast a long puppeteer tradition. It was here that the world famous author of puppet and cartoon films, Jiří Trnka, was born. At the secondary school he was taught by Josef Skupa, the author of the most famous Czech puppets, Spejbl and Hurvínek. Both of them, however, built on a tradition that is much richer and older, the tradition of the old puppet theatres. It is exactly this tradition that the visitors have an opportunity to learn about in the modern exhibition of the Museum of Puppets which includes interactive entertainment. the Brewery museum The Museum attracts visitors not just by its permanent, and indeed interesting, display but also by the exhibition Brewery in Pictures, 170 years of Pilsner Urquell, that traces the development of the brewery with plans, pictures and a number of objects. It also present renowned architects who contributed not just to the construction of the building and technical devices of the Pilsen brewery but also left their traces in the architecture of Pilsen. zum Einkauf ins alte Pilsen Die Ausstellung „Zum Einkauf ins alte Pilsen“, die im Völkerkundemuseum (Národopisné muzeum) auf dem Náměstí Republiky zu sehen ist, führt die Besucher ins 19. Jahrhundert, als Einkäufe auf dem Markt oder beim Krämer erledigt und luxuriösere Waren in der Kolonial- warenhandlung gekauft wurden. In der Ausstellung sind schön verzierte Tee- und Kaffeedosen zu bewundern, aber auch Ladeneinrichtungen, wie sie heute kein Kaufmann mehr verwendet. Über der Ausstellung thront das große Ladenschild einer alten Kolonialwarenhandlung: zwei miteinander verflochtene Meerjungfrauen. Die Ausstellung ist bis 7. april zu sehen. Palmen an der moldau (Foto 3) Die Westböhmische Galerie zeigt im Ausstellungszentrum Masné krámy eine Ausstellung mit dem Titel „Palmen an der Moldau“, die den Einfluss der Einge- borenenkulturen Afrikas, Amerikas und Ozeaniens auf die tschechische bildende Kunst der Jahre 1850 bis 1950 skizziert. Sie vermittelt dem Besucher einen Eindruck davon, wie die Kultur der sog. primitiven Völker in den Werken mitteleuropäischer bildendender Künstler rezipiert wurde und wie sich ihre Wahrnehmung im Laufe der Jahre veränderte. Die Ausstellung ist vom 30. januar bis zum 28. april zu sehen. Puppenmuseum (Foto 2) Pilsen kann auf eine langjährige Puppen- spieltradition zurückblicken. Hier wurde der weltberühmte Zeichen- und Puppentrick- filmautor Jiří Trnka geboren. Einer seiner Gymnasialprofessoren war Josef Skupa, der Schöpfer der wohl berühmtesten tschechischen Puppen, Hurvínek und Spejbl. Beide bauten jedoch auf einer weit- aus älteren und umfassenderen Tradition auf: der Tradition der alten Puppentheater. Diese Tradition wird den großen und klei- nen Besuchern des Puppenmuseums in einer modern konzipierten Ausstellung vermittelt, in der es auch an interaktiver Unterhaltung nicht fehlt. Brauereimuseum Das Brauereimuseum hat nicht nur eine interessante Dauerausstellung zu bieten, sondern lädt auch zu einer Sonderaus- stellung mit dem Titel „Die Brauerei in Bildern, 170 Jahre Pilsner-Urquell-Gelände“ ein, die in Form von Plänen, Bildern und verschiedenen Gegenständen die Ent- wicklung des gesamten Brauereigeländes dokumentiert. Darüber hinaus werden bedeutende Architekten vorgestellt, die nicht nur an der Errichtung der Gebäude und technischen Anlagen der Pilsener Brauerei beteiligt waren, sondern auch in der Architektur der Stadt ihre Spuren hinterlassen haben. In Pilsen gibt es eine Reihe von attraktiven Museen und eine Vielzahl von Galerien. Alle befinden sich im historischen Stadtzentrum. Die wichtigsten Sammlungen wer- den von der Westböhmischen Galerie (Západočeská galerie, Foto 1, Ausstellungs- saal „13“), dem Westböhmischen Museum (Západočeské muzeum), dem Museum für Kirchenkunst der Diözese Pilsen (Muzeum církevního umění plzeňské diecéze) und der Galerie der Stadt Pilsen (Galerie města Plzně) verwaltet. Zvuk těchto bubnů je zvučný a přitom uklidňující, je součástí šintoistických rituálů i festiva- lů. Koncert se uskuteční v KD Peklo. Pražský výběr na zimním stadionu (foto 3) V ČEZ Aréně vystoupí 19. března legenda české rockové muziky, sku- pina Pražský výběr. V jedinečném koncertu zazní největší hity z kariéry této skupiny, a to v původní sesta- vě: Michael Kocáb, Vilém Čok, Michal Pavlíček, Jiří Hrubeš a Klaudius Kryš- pín. Pražský výběr vznikl v roce 1976. V letech 1983–86 mu komunistický režim koncertování i nahrávání zaká- zal. V roce 2006 se kapela rozpadla a vloni ohlásila znovuobnovení své činnosti. Nejzvláštnější skupina míří do Plzně Bratři Ebeni jsou nejzvláštnější sku- pina v historii české populární hudby. Tvoří ji synové skladatele Petra Ebena, bratři Kryštof, Marek a David. Nekon- certují často, jednotlivá alba od sebe dělí řada let. Jejich koncerty jsou však vždycky vyprodané. Jsou vtipní a do- káží navodit jedinečnou atmosféru. Their breathtaking show is based on the taiko drums, traditional music instru- ments from the very early phases of the Japanese history. Pražský výběr was founded in 1976. In 1983 they were banned from performing and recording. A vůbec poprvé se tu plzeňskému publiku představí trnavský rapper Boy Wonder. zach´s Pub, klub naproti OC Plaza, patří k nejmenším plzeň- ským klubům, ale jeho nabídka je jednou z nejatraktivnějších. Vystupují tu muzikanti zvučných jmen, i kapely, které v rádiích neuslyšíte. Do jara tu zahrají kapely Circus Ponorka, Cashel, Kieslowski nebo Selfbrush. Jen pár kroků odtud, v Kollárově ulici, leží Buena vista Club. Ten láká k návštěvě už nevšedním vzhledem domu, v němž sídlí. Najdete je v Pivovarském dvoře Purkmistr (foto 1) v okrajové části města, v Černicích. Dámy si mohou užít pocitu bohyně v Antických lázních na Bolevecké návsi. Anebo si mohou vybírat z nabídky řady orientálních masážních salonů či rozmanitých wellness, například v hotelu Gondola (foto 3) či Central. Všude je ovšem třeba se předem objednat. Vzrušení a pohyb Vyznavače aktivního odpočinku určitě nadchnou motokáry. V Plzni jsou hned troje. Zajezdit si můžete buď v KartAreně v mostě Milénia za hlavním vlakovým nádražím, nebo o pár set metrů dál v areálu bývalé Papírny. Kdo si chce motokáry ale opravdu užít, ten se může vypravit do okrajové části města, do Lhoty, kde mají nejdelší motokárovou trať v ČR (foto 5). Jiný druh vzrušení poskytuje paintballové hřiště v PP Aréně na Denisově nábřeží (foto 4). Bojového ducha si mohou party kamarádů poměřit i v některém z řady bowlingů. Filmy a nákupy v jednom Milovnice nakupování mohou věnovat návštěvu města ces- tám od jednoho obchodního centra ke druhému. Výběr je tu bohatý: OC Olympia Plzeň (foto 2), OC Plzeň Rokycanská, OC Plzeň Plaza a další. A navíc v OC Olympia Plzeň na výpa- dovce směrem na České Budějovice (CineStar foto 6) a v OC Plzeň Plaza v centru města čekají na návštěvníky i dvě mo- derní multikina. Kdo má raději nákupy v malých obchodech a kino bez popcornu, pro toho je tu Kino Beseda v srdci měs- ta, obklopené obchody a obchůdky s rozmanitým zbožím. You have to book in advance in all of these. Excitement and motion The lovers of active leisure will no doubt be spellbound by karts. In Pilsner there are two kart establishments: KartArena in Millenium bridge behind the main railway station or a few hundred metres further away on the premises of the former pa- perworks. If you really want to enjoy karts, however, you need to go to the suburbs, to Lhota, where you will find the longest kart track in the Czech Republic (photo 5). A different kind of excitement is to be enjoyed on the paintball PP Arena at Denisovo nábřeží (photo 4). Groups of friends can compete in a number of bowl- ing establishments throughout the city. films and shopping in one package The lovers of shopping can turn their visit in Pilsen into a shopping tour from one shopping mall to another. The choice is wide: Olympia Pilsen (photo 2), Shopping centre Pilsen – Rokycanská, Plaza and others. Moreover, the Olympia mall near the road to České Budějovice (CineStar photo 6) and the Plaza mall in the centre of the city house modern multiplexes. Das gibt es in Pilsen gleich zweimal: einmal in der KartArena an der hinter dem Hauptbahnhof gelegenen Milénia-Brücke und ein paar hundert Meter weiter, auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen Papierfabrik. FC Viktoria waited exactly one hundred years for their first championship title. Since then, however, it has been dominat- ing the football league and the club has made some great achievements on the European scene. The ice-hockey club, HC Škoda, is still waiting for the cham- pionship, but the team fares well in the national competition. Both teams enjoy huge support of the fans and whenever they play their matches on the same day, crowds of supporters flow from ČEZ Arena to Štrunc’s park as a procession in costumes and with necessary attributes – scarves, caps and shirts. The ice-hockey matches are played on Fridays and Sundays. The regular season is scheduled to the end of February, to be followed by play-offs. The footballers play their first match after the winter break on February 14 in Naples, Italy, to be followed by the second leg a week later in Pilsen. The lovers of active sport can exercise in one of many fitness centres or go for a swim in the swimming pool Na Slovanech. During winter, many bowling bars seem an attractive option. If you want to try wonders and miracles in practice, you will love techmania. The adults can stop and wonder at an exhibition dedicated to the history and present of the Škoda factory, while children will adore displays document the work of spies and criminalists. A sense of mystery accompanies the tour of the historical underground. The entry is located near the square. As if by sweeping a magic wand, the Pilsen zoo will take you in a while to the opposite side of the Earth or into history. You will find here, among other things, an African pavilion or a 19th century country farm which hosts many interesting events. Bartoloměje 1 se pyšní nejvyšší kostelní věží v Čechách – měří 102,6 metru. Z jejího vyhlídkového ochozu ve výši 65 metrů uvidíte celé město jako na dlani. Plzeňská madona na hlavním oltáři katedrály patří mezi nejkrásnější české gotické sochy. Východní stranu kated- rály kryje z vnější strany kovaná barokní mříž zdobená hlavičkami andělíčků – mezi nimi se nachází tzv. andělíček pro štěstí. Poznáte ho snadno, je celý oblýs- kaný, a když jej pohladíte a budete si něco přát, určitě se vám to splní. moderní kašny ve třech rozích ná- městí jsou dílem architekta Ondřeje Císlera. Zobrazují heraldické figury z městského znaku – anděla, velblou- da a chrtici. Ve čtvrtém rohu náměstí se nachází morový sloup z roku 1681 s barokní replikou plzeňské madony na vrcholu. renesanční radnici 2 z roku 1558 zdobí četná sgrafita. V přízemí, v míst- nosti za mázhauzem, si můžete prohléd- nout model historického jádra města v měřítku 1:200. V sousedním Císař- ském domě sídlí Informační centrum města Plzně. Celé náměstí je doslova zhmotnělou učebnicí architektury. Vedle gotické katedrály tu stojí domy renesanční, ba- rokní, secesní, funkcionalistické i repre- zentující architekturu druhé poloviny 20. století. Na jižní straně náměstí se za- chovaly renesanční domy s kamennými portály. V jednom z nich sídlí i muzeum loutek 3 . Pamětní desky připomína- jí například pobyt vojevůdce Albrechta z Valdštejna či císaře Rudolfa II. 1,5 hod, cca 2km Procházku Plzní nemůžeme začít nikde jinde než na náměstí Republiky. To se svými rozměry 193 x 139m bylo v době svého založení jedním z největších gotických náměstí ve střední Evropě. WC

European Capital of Culture 2015 33 Z jižního rohu náměstí je vidět velká synagoga 4 . Jedna z největších synagog na světě pojme více než ti- síc lidí. Postavena byla v roce 1892 v maursko-románském stylu. Ulicí B. Smetany dojdeme kolem ba- rokního kostela sv. anny 5 a kla- sicistní budovy Studijní a vědecké knihovny Plzeňského kraje 6 (dříve kláštera dominikánek) k tzv. Brance v empírovém stylu, postavené na pozůstatku gotické městské brány. Za ní už se rozprostírá nádherný měst- ský sadový okruh založený v polovině 19. století na místě zbořených měst- ských hradeb. Odtud můžeme po pra- vé straně spatřit zadní část novorene- sanční budovy velkého divadla 7 . V Kopeckého sadech poutá pozornost měšťanská beseda 8 , nejvýznam- nější společenské centrum Plzeňanů. Historická budova skrývá nádherné secesní sály a salonky a také secesní kavárnu. Ve spodní části Kopeckého sadů se vyplatí odbočit Františkánskou ulicí k františkánskému klášteru, jenž patří mezi nejstarší stavby ve městě. Dnes zde sídlí muzeum církevního umě- ní plzeňské diecéze 9 . Vrátíme se zpět a pokračujeme smě- rem k západočeskému muzeu 10 , které se pyšní unikátní Městskou zbrojnicí s evropsky významnou sbír- kou gotických pušek. V Šafaříkových sadech nepřehlédněme drobné sou- soší plzeňských „rodáků“ Spejbla a Hurvínka, nejznámějších českých loutek. Sousední Křižíkovy sady zdobí největší český velkoplošný obraz. Dílo nazvané theatrum mundi 11 namalovali pl- zeňští malíři V. Čech a V. Kotyza přímo na fasádu jednoho domu v tzv. Prolu- ce. Námětem obrazu jsou významné plzeňské osobnosti. Podél Proluky s pozůstatky městských hradeb dojdeme až k masným krá- mům 12 . Gotická stavba je dnes výstavní síní Západočeské galerie. Ze sousedního Pražského mostu je jedi- nečný pohled na romantickou mlýn- skou strouhu. Někdejší vodní náhon má dnes podobu půvabného jezírka. Naproti Masným krámům stojí středo- věká vodárenská věž. Perlovou ulicí projdeme do ulice Vele- slavínovy k Pivovarskému muzeu 13 . Je to jediné muzeum svého druhu na světě, které sídlí v původním pivo- varnickém domě. Kromě prohlídkové trasy věnované vývoji pivovarnictví od starověku do současnosti, je odtud možné navštívit i plzeňské historic- ké podzemí. Tento spletitý labyrint chodeb, sklepů a studní byl pod měs- tem Plzní budován od 14. století. Také patří k nejrozsáhlejším v Čechách a jeho specialitou je ohromné množ- ství studní. Procházku centrem města můžeme stylově zakončit v Pražské ulici v nej- známější plzeňské pivnici U Salz- mannů. Dům s původním renesanč- ním bosovaným portálem nese jméno formana Martina Salzmanna, který v roce 1842 dovezl první várku Pra- zdroje do Prahy. Jen deset minut chůze od centra se nachází světoznámý pivovar Plzeňský Prazdroj 14 . Od Pivovarského mu- zea pokračujeme okolo hotelu Cour- tyard by Marriott k mlýnské strouze a odtud podchodem pod čtyřproudou komunikací do Štruncových sadů. Za podchodem zabočíme doprava. Kolem rekonstruované budovy secesní Soko- lovny a po lávce přes řeku dojdeme do pivovaru.

With its 193 x 139 metres, it was one of the largest Gothic squares in the Central Europe at the time when the city was founded. St Bartholomew’s Cathedral 1 boasts the highest church tower in Bohemia – it is 102.6 metres tall. The balcony at 65 metres gives you a great view of the whole city. the madonna of Pilsen on the main altar of the cathedral belongs among the most beautiful Czech Gothic sculptures. The eastern side of the cathedral is protected by a Baroque grille, decorated by the heads of the angels, including the angel that brings happiness – you will find him easily as his head is quite worn since the legend has it that if you touch his head and say a wish, your wish will be fulfilled. modern fountains in the three corners of the square have been designed by the architect Ondřej Císler. They represent three heraldic figures from the city’s coat-of-arms, namely an angel, a camel and a greyhound. In the fourth corner of the square there is a plague pillar of 1681 with the Baroque replica of the Pilsen madonna on top. the renaissance town hall 2 of 1558 is decorated by numerous sgraffiti. Check out the 1:200 model of the historical centre on the ground floor, just behind the great hall. The neighbouring Emperor House is the home to the Information Centre of the City of Pilsen. The whole square is something like a textbook of architecture. The Gothic cathedral is neighboured by Renaissance, Baroque, Secessionist, Functionalist and late 20th century buildings. On the south side of the square you will find Renaissance houses with stone portals. One of these houses the museum of the Puppets 3 . Plaques on the houses commemorate the stay of Adalbert of Wallenstein and the Emperor Rudolph II among others. the great Synagogue 4 can be seen from the southern corner of the square. With capacity of over 1,000 people, it belongs among the largest synagogues in the world. It was built in 1892 in Moorish- Romanesque style. Bedřich Smetana street will take us past the Baroque Chuch of St anna 5 and the Classicist building of the Education and research library of the Pilsener region 6 (formerly a Dominican Cloister) to the so-called Gate, built in the Empire style on the place of the former Gothic City Gate. Behind it you will find a large municipal park, established in the mid- 19th century in the place of the former city walls. From here, you can see the rear side of the Neo-Renaissance building of the Big theatre 7 . In Kopecký’s Park, měšťanská beseda 8 , the most important cultural centre of Pilsen, attracts attention. The historical building has beautiful Art Nouveau halls, lounges and a Art Nouveau café. In the lower part of Kopecký’s Park take the Franciscan Street toward the Franciscan Monastery, one of the oldest buildings in the city. Today it houses the newly opened museum of the Church art of the Pilsen Bishopric 9 . We return back and continue towards the museum of West Bohemia 10 boasting a unique Municipal Armoury with a great collection of Gothic guns. Don’t miss the statues of Spejbl and Hurvínek, the most famous Czech puppets and Pilsen “natives”, in the nearby Šafařík’s Park. The neighbouring Křižík’s Park is deco- rated by the largest Czech painting. The work called theatrum mundi 11 was painted by the Pilsen painters Čech and Kotyza directly on the facade of one of the houses in the so-called Proluka (Gap Site). Famous Pilsen people are represented in the painting. Along Proluka with the remains of the city walls we will reach masné krámy 12. This Gothic building serves today as the exhibition hall to the Gallery of West Bohemia. The neighbouring Prague Bridge offers a unique vista on mlýnská strouha (mill-race) which has been transformed into a romantic lake. The mediaeval water tower is situated just opposite Masné krámy. Perlová Street will take us to Veleslavín’s Street to the Brewery museum 13. It is the world´s only museum of its kind, based directly in the brewery house. Besides the tour dedicated to the development of brewery from the ancient times to the present, you can visit the historical underground of Pilsen. This convoluted labyrinth of corridors, cellars and wells was built from the 14th century. It belongs among the vastest in the Czech Republic and contains numerous wells. A tour of the city can be – quite ap- propriately – concluded in the Prague Street, in the most famous Pilsen pub U Salzmannů. A house with the original Renaissance embossed portal bears the name of the wagoner Martin Salzmann who brought the first supply of Pilsner Urquell to Prague in 1842. If you want to visit the worldwide famous Pilsner Urquell brewery 14, you can continue from the Brewery Museum past the hotel Courtyard by Marriot to mlýnská strouha and then take the underpass under the four-lane road to Štrunc’s Park. Take right after the underpass and go along the reconstructed Art Nouveau Sokolovna building, take the bridge over the road and you should reach the brewery in ten minutes.

European Capital of Culture 2015 35 dE/ Ein Bummel durch das pulsierende Herz der Stadt 1,5 Std., ca. 2km Ein Rundgang durch Pilsen kann nirgendwo anders beginnen als auf dem Náměstí Republiky (Platz der Republik). Dieser war mit einer Fläche von 193 x 139m zur Zeit seiner Erbauung einer der größten gotischen Plätze Mitteleuropas. Die unmittelbar auf dem Platz befindliche St.-Bartholomäus-kathedrale (ka- tedrála sv. Bartoloměje) 5 kann sich des höchsten Kirchturms in ganz Böhmen rühmen – er ist 102,6 Meter hoch und von seinem in 65 Meter Höhe gelegenen Aussichtsgang kann man die ganze Stadt auf einen Blick überschauen. Die Pilsener madonna am Hauptal- tar der Kirche zählt zu den schönsten gotischen Skulpturen in Böhmen. Die Ostseite der Kathedrale ist außen von einem barocken Metallgitter bedeckt, das mit Engelsköpfen geschmückt ist, darunter auch der sog. glücksengel. Dieser ist leicht zu erkennen: er ist schon ganz blank, und wenn Sie Ihn streicheln und sich dabei etwas wünschen, geht es bestimmt in Erfüllung. Die modernen Springbrunnen an drei Ecken des Platzes sind ein Werk des Architekten Ondřej Císler. Sie zeigen heraldische Figuren aus dem Pilsener Stadtwappen: einen Engel, ein Kamel und einen Windhund. In der vierten Ecke des Platzes steht eine Pestsäule aus dem Jahr 1681, an deren Spitze eine barocke Replik der Pilsener Madonna zu sehen ist. Ebenfalls auf dem Platz befindet sich das mit zahlreichen Sgraffiti verzierte renais- sance-rathaus 2 aus dem Jahr 1558. Im Erdgeschoss des Gebäudes, in einem Raum hinter dem Maßhaus, kann man ein Modell des historischen Stadtkerns im Maßstab 1:200 besichtigen. Gleich nebenan, im kaiserhaus (Císařský dům), hat das Informationszentrum der Stadt seinen Sitz. Der ganze Platz ist ein materialisiertes Architekturlehrbuch im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes: Neben der gotischen Kathedrale finden sich Renaissance-, Barock- und Jugendstilhäuser, funktionalistische Ge- bäude wie auch Bauwerke aus der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auf der Südseite sind einige Renaissancehäuser mit Steinportalen erhalten geblieben. In einem davon ist das Puppenmuseum (muzeum loutek) 3 ansässig. Ver- schiedene Gedenktafeln erinnern an Aufenthalte Albrecht von Wallensteins und Kaiser Rudolfs II. Vom südlichen Ende des Platzes aus ist die große Synagoge (velká syna- goga) 4 zu sehen. Sie wurde 1892 im maurisch-romanischen Stil erbaut und gehört mit einem Fassungsvermögen von mehr als tausend Menschen zu den größten Synagogen der Welt. Durch die Bedřich-Smetana-Straße (ulice B. Smetany) gelangt man, vorbei an der barocken St.-anna-kirche (kostel sv. anny) 5 und dem klassizistischen Bau der Studien- Wissenschaftliche Bibliothek der Pilsner region 6 (einem früheren Dominikanerinnenkloster), zur sog. Branka, einem auf den Überres- ten des gotischen Stadttors errichteten Empire-Gebäude. Dahinter beginnt das wunderschöne städtische Parkgelände, das Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts anstelle der abgerissenen Stadtmauern angelegt wurde. Von hier aus ist rechterhand der westliche Teil des im Neorenaissancestil erbauten großen theaters (velké divadlo) 7 zu sehen. Im Kopecký-Park (Kopeckého sady) zieht das wichtigste gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Zentrum der Pilsener, das ehemalige bürgerliche Vereinshaus měšťanská beseda 8 , die Blicke auf sich. In dem historischen Gebäude befinden sich bezaubernde Jugendstilsäle und -salons wie auch ein Jugendstilcafé. Vom unteren Teil des Kopecký-Parks aus lohnt sich ein Abstecher in die Františ- kánská ulice (Franziskanerstraße) zum Franziskanerkloster, das zu den ältesten Bauwerken der Stadt gehört. Heute hat dort das neu eröffnete museum für kirchenkunst der diözese Pilsen (muzeum církevního umění plzeňské diecéze) 9 seinen Sitz. KehrenwirnunzumAusgangspunktunseres Abstechers zurück und setzen unseren Rundgang in Richtung des Westböh- mischen museums (západočeské muzeum) 10 fort. Dieses beherbergt u.a. die Städtische Rüstkammer mit einer europaweit bedeutsamen Sammlung go- tischer Flinten. Im Šafařík-Park (Šafaříkovy sady) sticht eine kleine Skulpturengruppe ins Auge, die zwei „gebürtige“ Pilsener zeigt: die wohl bekanntesten tschechischen Puppen Hurvínek und Spejbl. Im benachbarten Křižík-Park (Křižíkovy sady) kann man das größte tschechische Wandbild bewundern. Das Werk, das den Titel theatrum mundi 11 trägt, wurde von den Pilsener Malern V. Čech und V. Kotyza direkt auf die Fassade eines der Häuser in der sog. „Baulücke“ (Proluka) gemalt. Gegenstand des Bildes sind wichtige Pilsener Persönlichkeiten. Vorbei an der „Baulücke“ mit Überresten der Stadtmauer begeben wir uns zum gotischen Gebäude der masné krámy („fleischläden“) 12, das heute als Ausstellungssaal der Westböhmischen Galerie (Západočeská galerie) dient. Von der benachbarten Prager Brücke (Pražský most) aus bietet sich ein einzigartiger Blick auf den romantischen mühlgraben (mlýnská strouha). Der ehemalige Wassergraben hat heute die Form eines schönen kleinen Sees. Gegenüber den Masné krámy steht der mittelalterliche Wasserturm (vodárenská věž). Durch die Perlová ulice gehen wir zum Brauereimuseum (Pivovarské muze- um) 13 in der ulice Veleslavínova. Dieses Museum ist das weltweit einzige seiner Art, das in einem ehemals brauberech- tigten Haus untergebracht ist. Neben einem Besichtigungsrundgang, der der Geschichte des Brauereiwesens von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart gilt, kann man von hier aus auch die Pilsener historischen keller besuchen. Dieses aus verzweigten Gängen, Kellern und Brunnen bestehende Labyrinth wurde ab dem 14. Jahrhundert unter der Stadt errichtet. Es gehört zu den größten un- terirdischen Kellersystemen in Böhmen und seine Besonderheit besteht in einer außergewöhnlich großen Zahl an Brunnen. Unseren Bummel durch das Stadtzent- rum können wir stilvoll im bekanntesten Pilsener Bierlokal U Salzmannů in der Pražská ulice beenden. Das mit einem originalen Renaissance-Bossenportal versehene Haus trägt den Namen des Fuhrunternehmers Martin Salzmann, der 1842 die erste Ladung Pilsner Urquell nach Prag brachte. Wer noch die weltberühmte Pilsner- Urquell-Brauerei 14 besichtigen will, kann vom Brauereimuseum aus, vorbei am Hotel Courtyard by Marriott, zum mühlgraben (mlýnská strouha) und von dort aus durch eine Unterführung unter einer vierspurigen Straße zum Štrunc-Park (Štruncovy sady) gehen. Nach der Unterführung muss man nach rechts abbiegen und gelangt, vorbei am rekonstruierten Jugendstilgebäude Sokolovna und über eine Brücke, nach ca. zehn Minuten zur Brauerei.

Evropské hlavní město kultury 201536 Cz/ město jako galerie pod širým nebem Podobně jako ženy líčí svou tvář make-upem, nalíčila svou tvář i Plzeň. Průčelí honosných měšťanských domů zdobí četná sgrafita či vtipné secesní plastiky. Stačí zvednout oči od chodníku a před člověkem se otevírá galerie pod širým nebem. Nejen Mikoláš Aleš Nejvýraznější stopu na tváři města zane- chal významný český malíř Mikoláš Aleš, jenž zde působil v letech 1892 až 1904. Na západní straně centrálního náměstí bohatě ozdobil domy, v nichž dnes síd- lí lékárna a Česká spořitelna (foto 1). Na domě na rohu Sedláčkovy a Solní ulice (foto 3) zobrazil představitele ře- meslných cechů. Největší komplex jeho sgrafit však najdeme mimo centrum, v Nerudově ulici (foto 2). Tady zachytil české dějiny a dílo básníka Jana Nerudy. Na fasádách však vidíme díla i jiných, leckdy už zapomenutých autorů. Napří- klad na domě vedle Pivovarského mu- zea, na křižovatce Sadů 5. května a Ro- oseveltovy ulice či naproti hlavní poště v Solní ulici. Gaudí a sochy k pousmání Fasády měšťanských domů ale nezdobí jen malby. Bohatá a velmi vtipná je i se- cesní výzdoba sochařská. Doslova galerií je v tomto ohledu Hálkova ulice u nádra- ží Plzeň – Jižní předměstí. Řadu domů tu stavěl Karel Bubla, po němž v Plzni zbyl i jeden skutečný klenot: dům v Do- minikánské ulici č. 7 (foto 4), jenž půso- bí dojmem až gaudíovským a vymyká se všemu, co lze v Plzni vidět. Divadlo světa plzeňského Líčení na tváři města však nepochází jen z časů dávno minulých. V roce 2001 přibyla rozměrná freska Theatrum mun- di (foto 5). Najdeme ji na boční stěně domu v Křižíkových sadech a zachycuje významné plzeňské osobnosti. Společ- ně tu tak jsou císař Rudolf II., hudební skladatel Bedřich Smetana, vynálezce František Křižík a další. 2 1

The facades of opulent burgher houses are decorated by numerous sgraffiti or witty Art Nouveaustatues. Just raise your eyes from the pavement and what you see is an open-air gallery. not just mikoláš aleš The famous Czech painter Mikoláš Aleš who stayed in Pilsen from 1892 to 1904 has left the most visible trace in the city. He decorated the houses located on the western side of the main square which now house the pharmacy and Česká spořitelna (photo 1). On the corner of Sedláčková and Solní street he painted the representatives of guilds. It is beyond the centre, however, that we find the rich- est collection of his sgraffiti – namely in Neruda’s Street. The sgraffiti portray the Czech history and the work of the poet Jan Neruda (photo 2). The facades contain works by other, often forgotten authors. Some of these can be found on the house beside the Brewery Museum, on the corner of Sady 5. května (Park of May 5) and Roosevelt Street or just opposite the main post office in Solní Street (photo 3). gaudí and funny statues Thefacadesoftheburgherhouses,however, are not decorated just by paintings. The decoration by statues is quite prominent too. Hálek Street near the railway station Pilsen – South is something like a gallery. A number of houses in this street were built by Karel Bubla who has left a real jewel in Pilsen, the house in Dominican Street no. 7 (photo 4) – the house feels almost Gaudían and is quite unlike any- thing you can see in Pilsen. the theatre of the Pilsner world The paintings on the face of the city do not necessarily come only from the distant history. The large painting Theatrum mundi (photo 5) was created in 2001 and can be found on the side wall of the house in Křižík’s Park. The painting includes famous people from the history of Pilsen: the emperor Rudolph II, the composer Bedřich Smetana, the inventor František Křižík and others. nicht nur mikoláš aleš Die markantesten Spuren im Gesicht der Stadt hat der bedeutende tschechische Maler Mikoláš Aleš hinterlassen, der von 1892 bis 1904 hier tätig war. An der Westseite des Náměstí Republiky kann man einige von ihm reich verzierte Häuser bewundern, in denen sich heute eine Apo- theke und eine Filiale der Tschechischen Sparkasse befinden (Foto 1). An einem Eckhaus in der Sedláčkova ulice/ Solní ulice hat Aleš Vertreter unterschiedlicher Handwerkszünfte dargestellt. Der größte Sgraffito-Komplex ist jedoch außerhalb des Stadtzentrums, in der Nerudova ulice (Foto 2), zu finden. Hier hat Aleš der tschechischen Geschichte wie auch dem Werk des tschechischen Schriftstellers Jan Neruda (1834-1891) ein Denkmal gesetzt. An den Fassaden sind jedoch auch Arbeiten anderer, zum Teil vergessener Künstler zu sehen. So z.B. an einem Haus neben dem Brauereimuseum, an der Kreuzung Sady 5. května/ Rooseveltova ulice oder auch gegenüber der Hauptpost in der Solní ulice (Foto 3). gaudí und Skulpturen zum Schmunzeln Die Fassaden der Bürgerhäuser sind jedoch nicht nur mit Malereien, sondern auch mit vielen – oft sehr witzigen – plastischen Jugendstilverzierungen geschmückt. Eine Galerie im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes ist diesbezüglich die an der Bahnstation Pilsen-Jižní předměstí gelegene Straße Hálkova ulice. Mehrere der dortigen Häuser stammen von dem Architekten Karel Bubla, der Pilsen noch ein weiteres Juwel hinterlassen hat: ein Haus in der Dominikánská ulice 7 (Foto 4), das an Gaudís Bauten erinnert und sich allem entzieht, was man sonst in Pilsen sehen kann. das Pilsener Welttheater Das Make-up auf dem Antlitz der Stadt stammt jedoch nicht nur aus längst ver- gangenen Zeiten. Im Jahr 2001 kam das großflächige Fresko „Theatrum mundi“ (Foto 5) hinzu. Es befindet sich auf der Seitenwand eines Hauses im Křižík-Park (Křižíkové sady) und zeigt berühmte Pilsener Persönlichkeiten. So vereint das Fresko z.B. Kaiser Rudolf II., den Komponisten Bedřich Smetana, den Erfinder František Křižík und einige andere. Wie eine Frau, die ihr Gesicht mit Make-up schminkt, hat auch die Stadt Pilsen ihr Gesicht geschmückt: Die Fassaden vieler Bürgerhäuser sind mit zahlreichen Sgraffiti oder humorvollen Jugendstilplastiken verziert. Man braucht nur die Augen zu heben, schon öffnet sich vor einem eine Freilichtgalerie. 3 4 5

Evropské hlavní město kultury 201538 Cz/ Plzeňský kraj jako stvořený pro turistiku Plzeňský kraj byl docela určitě stvořen podle přání turistů. Vlní se v pahorkatinách a stoupá vzhůru ve svazích Šumavy a Českého lesa, jež lákají v létě turisty a cyklisty a v zimě lyžaře a běžkaře. Jako kraj na hranici mezi slovanským a germánským obyvatelstvem sloužil tenhle kout Čech po staletí spíš jako obranný val a zároveň právě tudy při- cházely do středu Evropy nové pod- něty z vyspělejšího západu. Proto tu nenajdeme tolik honosných hradů a zámků jako jinde v republice, zato je zde nezvyklá koncentrace velkých klášterů. Staré hrady se namnoze pro- měnily v romantické zříceniny. Barokní perly a historické rány Krajina na sever od Plzně je doslova posetá drobnými barokními sakrálními památkami – od Božích muk v polích až po kostely a kostelíky ve vsích. Jako by se tu někomu přetrhl náhrdel- ník a jeho perly se rozkutálely po kraji. Však se také zdejší naučné cyklotrasy jmenují Barokní perly. Docela jinou tvář historie ukazují ná- vštěvníkům naučné stezky v Českém lese. Provádějí je totiž místy, kde až do poloviny minulého století žili lidé. Pak přišel odsun německého oby- vatelstva a nakonec spadla železná opona. Na památky od dubna První dubnový den přivítají první letoš- ní návštěvníky i západočeské hrady a zámky: půvabné zámky Kozel, Maně- tín (foto 5) a Nebílovy, impozantní zří- cenina hradu Rabí (foto 4), majestátní zříceniny Radyně a Velhartice (foto 3), bohatý hrad a zámek Horšovský Týn (foto 1), unikátní vodní hrad Švihov či monumentální kláštery Plasy (foto 6) a Kladruby (foto 2). www.turisturaj.cz 1 2

European Capital of Culture 2015 39 En/ the Pilsen region created for tourism dE/ die region Pilsen wie für den Tourismus geschaffen The Pilsen region is a dream come true for all kinds of tourists. The rolling hills and the rising range of Böhmerwald attract hikers and bikers in the summer, alpine and cross-country skiers in the winter. As a region on the threshold between the Slavic and the German population, this part of Bohemia served for hundreds of centuries as a rampart and, at the same, as a border through which new influences flowed into the Central Europe from the more developed West. This may be the reason why we won’t find so many rich castles and chateaux here as elsewhere in the Czech Republic, but, on the other hand, the region will surprise us by numerous monasteries. The ancient castles have just turned into romantic ruins. Baroque pearls and historical wounds The landscape north of Pilsen is literally littered with minor Baroque sacral monu- ment – from simple crosses in the fields to churches in villages. It is as if a necklace was torn and the pearls ran across the region. It is no accident that the local biking routes are called Baroque Pearls. The tracks in Böhmerwald (or the Czech Forest) show a quite different face though. They pass through places that had been inhabited until the half of the last cen- tury. Then the German inhabitants were expelled from the country and the Iron Curtain was established. Heritage sites from april On the first day of April the castles and chateaux in West Bohemia will welcome first visitors. The most famous heritage sites include the charming chateaux Kozel, Manětín (photo 5) and Nebílovy, the magnificent ruins of the castles Rabí (photo 4), Radyně and Velhartice (photo 3), the rich castle of Horšovský Týn (photo 1) or the monumental monasteries Plas (photo 6) y and Kladruby (photo 2). www.touristparadise.com Als Gebiet an der Grenze zwischen slawischem und germanischem Sied- lungsraum diente dieser Teil Böhmens jahrhundertelang vor allem als Schutzwall. Barocke Perlen und historische Wunden Die Landschaft nördlich von Pilsen ist regelrecht übersät mit kleinen barocken Sakralbauten, von Bildstöcken auf den Feldern bis zu den kleinen Kirchen und Kirchlein in den Dörfern. Als wäre jemandem sein Collier zerschnitten worden und die Perlen hätten sich über die Landschaft verteilt. Doch auch die hiesigen Radlehrpfade heißen Barokní perly – „Barockperlen“. Ein ganz anderes Antlitz der Geschichte zeigt sich Besuchern auf dem Lehrpfad im Böhmerwald. Dieser führt durch Orte, wo bis Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts noch Menschen wohnten. Dann folgte die Abschiebung der deutschen Bevölkerung und schließlich fiel der Eiserne Vorhang. im april öffnen die Schlösser Am ersten Apriltag öffnen auch die westböhmischen Burgen und Schlösser wieder ihre Pforten: die zauberhaften Schlösser Kozel, Manětín (Foto 5) und Nebílovy, die imposante Burgruine Rabí (Foto 4), die majestätischen Ruinen Radyně und Velhartice (Foto 3), die prunkvolle Schlossburg Horšovský Týn (Foto 1), die einzigartige Wasserburg Švihov wie auch die monumentalen Klöster Plasy (Foto 6) und Kladruby (Foto 2). www.touristparadise.com Die Region Pilsen wurde mit ziemlicher Sicherheit nach den Wünschen von Touristen kreiert.
